Floods in southwestern China have killed at least eight people. More than 30 people are still missing after flooding hit Ya’an, Sichuan province, early Saturday morning local time, according to the official Xinhua news agency. Rescue efforts are continuing, with more than 400 emergency workers dispatched to the area.
China often experiences heavy rains, especially in the summer. Over the weekend alone, a highway bridge collapsed in northwest China, killing at least 12 people. The accident in Shaanxi province was also suspected to be caused by heavy rains.
