The report also came from the Posušje Veterinary Station, which performed an autopsy on the dead pigs, collected samples and sent them to the laboratory for testing.

– The competent federal authorities, acting within their competence, forwarded the submitted findings to the Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which issued a revised decision on the identification of territories infected and threatened by the occurrence of African swine fever. In addition, the state veterinary inspectors and state health departments have been informed of the above situation and are invited to take measures to strengthen supervision and control. Hereby, we call on the owners of farms to take the measures provided for by the law, as well as measures that contribute to improving biosecurity conditions on farms, thereby preventing the further spread of this disease, which is highly contagious for pigs, and causing significant losses. For agricultural holdings engaged in pig farming – this is stated in the press release of the federal ministry.

They reminded that the Regulations on African Swine Fever Control Measures set out the measures that must be taken when a confirmed case of African swine fever occurs. According to the rulebook, all animals from an infected farm must be removed harmlessly, as well as all potentially contaminated materials and waste.

The regulation provides for the conduct of an epidemiological survey, the listing of all pig farms and animals located in the epidemic zone (three-kilometer circle) and the threatened zone (ten-kilometer circle), and the warning of the obligation of animal owners to strengthen biosecurity measures on farms and prohibit any type of transportation and trade of live pigs. In addition, it is necessary to create a local disease control center composed of representatives of the state authorities, the state veterinary inspection, the competent veterinary station, hunting associations and other institutions estimated to be able to contribute to the prevention of the spread of the disease.

– African swine fever (ASF) is a viral infectious disease of domestic and wild pigs, it is not dangerous for humans and other animals, it is not a zoonosis, therefore it cannot be transmitted to humans in any way and endanger human health – this was announced by the Federation Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, reports the Public Relations Office of the Federation Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
