It is important to choose good friends. We should wish our friends well and pray for them. Good friends are few and far between. All friends will become enemies on the Day of Judgment. Except for those companions who are pious and righteous.
If you want to have good friends, strengthen your faith. And do good deeds. Allah confirms in the Quran that those who believe and do good deeds will be loved by people. The Quran and the Sunnah show that Allah will increase the popularity among the righteous for those who meet these two conditions. One such proof is Surah Maryam 96. In that verse, Allah reveals:
{Indeed, those who believe in you and do good deeds – the Most Merciful will grant them love.}
Meaning: “Indeed, those who believe and do good, the Most Merciful will love them.”
This verse shows that love and respect (of believers) is not forced. It is a divine gift. The words of believers and righteous people have an effect. If a person who believes and does good deeds asks for something, Allah will put the desire to do so in the heart of the believer.
Another such evidence is the hadith narrated by Abu Hurayrah and Bukhari. The meaning of this hadith is as follows. “If Allah loves a servant, He will say to Gabriel. O son of Gabriel. I love such and such. And I love that. Then Gabriel loves this servant. Then Gabriel calls out to the people in heaven. Indeed, Allah loves this servant. So love the servant. Then the people in heaven love him. Then He makes him popular on earth.” (Bukhari 3209)
This hadith implies that a servant who is loved by Allah will be loved by the people of heaven and earth. What a great blessing this is!
Another such evidence is the statement of Imam Sufyan al-Thawri.
Imam Sufyan al-Sauri said: “You, improve your relationship with Allah. Then Allah will improve your relationship with others.”
Good companions are a great blessing. They are very helpful in this world and the next.
The Quran tells us that good and righteous friends will lead you to victory.
How many lost people have been guided by good companions? Good friends play an important role in keeping you on the right path.
May Allah make us His beloved servants.
And give us good companions.
