June 3, M. Nepal lost to Sri Lanka in the first match of the 2024 Kawa U-20 Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Nepal lost 3-1 to Sri Lanka in a match held at the Social Center in Male City, Maldives on Thursday. Although Nepal hoped to start with a victory, it suffered a disastrous defeat in the first match due to its performance that was not as expected.

Sri Lanka won the first set 25-20 and took the lead. In the second set tie-break, Nepal tied the score 26-24. However, in the third set, Nepal played poorly, and Sri Lanka won easily 25-11 and took a 2-1 lead. Sri Lanka then won the fourth set 25-18.

Head coach Kumar Rai said that Nepal’s performance in the first match did not meet expectations. As it was the first match, the atmosphere within the Nepal team was not very harmonious.

Although Salina Budda Magar and Mina Sunar performed well for Nepal, the performances of other players were forgettable. Salina scored 20 points and Mina Sunar scored 12 points.

Kyrgyzstan won the first match on Thursday by defeating the host Maldives in straight sets. Kyrgyzstan defeated Maldives 25-11, 25-11, 25-17.

Nepal will now face Kyrgyzstan on Friday, with another match set to be played between Sri Lanka and Maldives on Friday.
