The spokesperson of the Nationalist Chamber of Deputies, Aitor Esteban, asked the cabinet chaired by Mariano Rajoy whether the “course of action” of Carlos Urquijo, deputy of the Basque Regional Government, which “is committed to the absolute monopoly of dialogue”, complies with the “orders” of the executive branch.
The registration document announced yesterday by the Jeltzale organization accuses Urquijo of “working to prevent dialogue”. According to the PNV initiative, the government representative acts in this way, instead of “lubricating and promoting inter-institutional relations”, and accuses him of “fulfilling a single function: providing the court with endless resources”.
In addition, the document compiled by Aitor Esteban states that “controversial statements and actions” of government representatives in the Basque Country “have led to ongoing tensions with the autonomous, local and provincial governments.”
The deputy therefore called on the Spanish government to publish “future intentions for inter-institutional and inter-executive relations with the Basque Country”. The initiative will be debated in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies next Wednesday.
It is foreseeable that at the same parliamentary session, the penultimate one before the vote on the 25th, Vice President Soraya Sáenz de Santamaria will also be responsible for answering another question raised by a PNV spokesman.
Nationalist groups want to know whether the executive considers that single-member constituencies for the management of these European elections are compatible with the current institutional and administrative structure of the Spanish state.
