By Monday morning, the entire social media was abuzz with statuses, photos, news and opinions related to the speech of Ali Arif, Minister in the President’s Office. The People’s National Congress (PNC), the main party in the ruling coalition, held a rally on Sunday night.
As I listened to Arif’s speech, I noticed that the whole story was based on two main points. Of these, “Garlic and Porridge, and Quality of Life” was by far the most talked about story on social media, so I’ll talk about that.
The story begins with Sri Lanka’s economic situation. It’s tied to the country’s debt. It’s tied to the warning that safety must be prioritized. Ali Arif insists that those who created the debt should be held accountable.
“All those who have spoken recently have mentioned that the national debt owed by President Amin to President Ibrahim is Rs60 billion, but the debt for the last five years alone is Rs64 billion. But we must tell this story to the people for the good of the people.”
“And then they say why are you taking on so much debt? You know the state is in debt, right? Who told you that? People are saying hand it over, please hand it over, a large portion of the people are saying hand it over, save this place for us, the answer to the question of who told you to hand it over is, people are saying hand it over,” he explained.
It’s not waste, it’s stealing
“I am afraid of what the MD just said, how can this be done, the fact is that political parties are created to do political things and the law that creates political parties says there should be political parties to serve the people. Katwal, he said, they are being hired to do projects that do not exist in the world, it is a waste,” said Ali Arif.
He then said that President Dr. Mohammed Muizubani’s policy is not to sew up politicians who have also said the opposite. “But the government is not participating in the elections but there are independent agencies to investigate such crimes and that is what the law requires of them and they must come forward themselves,” he said.
“As MD Muaz just said, ACC should come out and see, they should not sleep, this is people’s money, someone may do something wrongly, but from what he said we know that this is a serious crime, take necessary action, no big name, no waste, this is a big crime, it is a big theft, this country will have independent institutions, the state will manage them from people’s pockets, action should be taken,” said Ali Arif
“If we talk like that, it’s a response,” he said, adding that it was not waste but theft. He asked why not steal.
Protecting sovereignty is the president’s greatest commitment
The President of the Republic of Sri Lanka and the President of the Republic of Sri Lanka. When he took over, Muhammad Muhizu said that his greatest commitment was to protect the independence and sovereignty of Sri Lanka.
“I plead that we must do this for the benefit of all the people of Dhaka. When he took over, Mohammad Muizul said his greatest commitment was to protect the independence and sovereignty of this country.
“If a person is sick, take bitter medicine and he will be cured, it is mandatory, as Dr. Khalil just mentioned, put the paper into the printing press and it will be printed, it is the President of the Republic of Sri Lanka. Muhammad Muizul is doing it,” he added.
“It is true that this is a difficult time, but Allah will not let this country go bankrupt, the future of this country is very bright. We have to stop cooking at home these days and make our own meals, they have not cut it yet.” There is no old-age allowance for any citizen, no allowance for students or children, no allowance for single mothers, no Assange.
He called on the public not to spread false information and rumors, saying that this is the situation in the country and everyone should work together to overcome it. He also asked journalists and political parties to act within the constitutional framework.
“So I want to tell the people of Sri Lanka, the President, the honorable members of Parliament and the heads of the Corporation, give a little space to the work that we are doing now. What was the first promise of the President? To defend freedom and sovereignty, they are here to save this place and not let it fall into the hands of others again, not everyone is willing to do it, not everyone wants to, in statistics, they don’t know to do it, the easy way is not chosen, there will be educated people who will know, there will be some who do and those who don’t know, so the easy way is chosen, the current President of this country does not want to break it or if the person has little hope of survival, the doctor will say to amputate, or amputate this or that place, you have to do it to the heart, right, that’s what is being done now,” he said.
