One-hour trains did not receive EU support – these 11 projects grabbed a pot of 39 million euros

The financing targets for the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Fund have been announced. The Ministry of Transport and Communications said Finland will finance 11 projects, five of which are national transport projects and the remaining six for private operators.

In total, 134 projects were awarded funding totaling around 7 billion euros in the EU. More than 400 applications were received, 21 of which were from Finland.

Minister of Transport Show your wrist The ministry commented in its announcement that competition for EU funds is fierce, and noted that the EU’s shift in security priorities appears to have affected the allocation of funds.

For example, Finland’s planned high-speed train between Turku and Helsinki still does not receive EU funding. Western Railway mixed Rentoratawhose purpose is to connect Helsinki-Vantaa Airport with long-distance train traffic.

Finnish national transport projects received around 20 million euros. 1.75 million euros were allocated for the design of the Riihimäki-Tampere line. 3 million euros were allocated for the design of the Karelian railway line between Imatra and Joensuu. 2.25 million euros were allocated for the planning project to increase the speed and capacity of the Savo line.

The Digirata 1 project received the largest amount of funding, €12.83 million. The goal of this project is to equip the Tampere-Pori railway section with a European rail traffic management system. The sixth national project is the Finnish part of C-Roads Extended, which received €300,000. This is a multi-country connection project.

Private projects in Finland received nearly €19 million in funding. The ports of Pori, Kemi, Laage and Helsinki received funding. Fintraffic Maritime Traffic Management A multinational joint project to expand electronic transport information. Finnish companies are involved in the project Kouvola Innovation, Sefi and Ahola Group.

The agreement on the subsidy payments will be signed by the end of November. Applications for this year’s funding will open at the end of September.
