Richard Simmons, the eccentric fitness guru known for his relentless positivity, has died, according to his spokesman.
Simmons just celebrated his 76th birthday on Friday.
According to police sources, the Los Angeles Police Department arrived at Simmons’ home after receiving a 911 call from his housekeeper and found him dead. The source said his death appeared to be natural and no foul play was suspected.
Three months ago, Simmons made fans panic When he posted that he was dying On Facebook, March wrote: “I have some news for you. Please don’t be sad. I am… dying. Oh, I can see your faces now. The truth is, we are all dying. Every day we live we are closer to death.”
He later clarified that he was not actually dead, but rather the message was meant to encourage everyone to “embrace every day we have.”
Simmons has been out of the public eye lately, though there were reports earlier this year that a biopic of the fitness enthusiast was in the works. Simmons criticized the reports, writing: “Don’t believe everything you read. I no longer have an agent or a publicist. I just want to live my life quietly and be at peace.” (ABC)
