The president pledged when he took office in 2022 that there would be no extrajudicial killings in Kenya, a pledge he reiterated last month.
The President also welcomed the participation of young people in the political discussions about their country in a peaceful manner.
However, human rights groups say there has been an increase in extrajudicial killings, particularly since the protests began.
At least 39 people were killed in the brutal crackdown on the demonstrations. Even after the protests ended, more shocking deaths were reported.
Young activists continued to go missing, their bodies subsequently found in dams and bushes.
Nine bodies were found wrapped in sacks at a garbage dump in Nairobi’s Mukuru slum on Friday. Some were fresh, others were already decomposed.
Witnesses and police said some had burns and appeared to have been killed elsewhere and dumped at the scene near Kware police station.
As President William Ruto recently said, the loss of any life concerns us all.
The country has competent agencies that must tell Kenyans who is killing these young people.
The Criminal Investigation Department, Kenya Police and other security agencies have the power to stop these killings.
If they fail to expose and stop the killer squad, they too will be considered complicit.
