MUZAFARABAD: Hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was informed about the whereabouts of missing Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad, his family members met him at a police station in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Wednesday.
Earlier today, Pakistan Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan informed IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani that the poet has been “arrested and is currently in police custody” in AJK.
The AGP disclosed this while hearing a petition seeking the poet’s return.
Farhad’s wife Urooj Zainab approached the IHC on May 15, seeking her husband’s rehabilitation and asking the court to identify, investigate and prosecute those responsible for his disappearance.
After the court hearing, the missing poet’s family met Farhad at Kaholi police station outside Muzaffarabad.
After the meeting, the missing poet’s brothers told reporters that Farhad’s condition was stable and they will now fight a legal battle in Kashmir.
Earlier, the family of the missing poet had complained that the AJK police were not cooperating with them and not revealing the whereabouts of the missing poet.
Farhad, known for his defiant prose, was allegedly abducted from his home on May 14.
