VEMCO launches resort waste management service.

Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal attended the ceremony.

VEMCO said it has started collecting waste from resorts to address the challenges faced by resorts in transporting waste to the company’s regional transfer stations. As a result, all resorts that have signed up for this service can use VEMCO vehicles for waste collection.

Minister Faisal said that till now, resorts have been entrusting waste to private parties, which is not the best way to manage the waste generated by resorts in a sustainable manner.

VEMCO only disposes waste to resorts that have registered for the service. Therefore, the Minister requires all resorts to participate in VEMCO’s waste disposal service.

“I would like to ask all resorts to take the initiative to participate in the services of VEMCO. Sri Lanka should remain beautiful and resorts in the tourism industry should become a clean and beautiful place. Minister Faisal said.

Faisal said the service launched by VEMCO will promote the president’s policy of making state-owned enterprises profitable. He said VEMCO will start processing the resort’s waste and the company will earn good income.

VEMCO said the resorts will also collect waste and separate it into four categories, including plastic, kitchen waste, glass/mineral and other waste. He said that sorting waste at these levels will also have a positive impact on the tourism industry in a sustainable way.
