this Isle of Man Food and Drink Festival This weekend, the smell of delicious food, the sound of clinking glasses and the best local musicians will return to the Gardens at Villa Marina.
Thousands of revellers are expected to attend the celebrations featuring local food and drink Saturday 16 and Sunday, September 17th.
The festival holds a special place in the hearts of islanders and visitors alike and this year, the festival will continue its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, in line with the Isle of Man’s UNESCO Biosphere status.
This year, attendees are asked to bring their own bags and water bottles to avoid single-use plastics (SUPs). This is especially relevant with the upcoming ban on 10 SUP items, including straws, coming in October. Reusable cups and eco-friendly practices will be promoted throughout the two-day event.
Environment, Food and Farming Minister Clare Barber MHK said:
“The festival is a true celebration of Manx food and wine and an opportunity for consumers to engage with producers in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our unique food and drink is a place to be proud of and when people buy local produce they reduce food miles, boost the Isle of Man economy and contribute to the sustainable development of our beautiful island.”
In partnership with KPMG, this year’s festival will also include a ‘Sustainability Zone’an interactive and educational space designed to encourage people to adopt environmentally friendly practices. In partnership with organisations such as Douglas Borough Council, Isle of Man Net Zero, UNESCO Manx Biosphere and Zero Waste Mann, the area will provide valuable resources and insights for a more sustainable future.
