According to organizers, the event attracted about 500,000 people to the capital region.
The sailboats taking part in this year’s Grand Regatta set out from the port of Helsinki towards Tallinn around noon on Sunday.
Around 50 boats taking part in the event have been docked around the Finnish capital since Thursday.
The boats are moored in the city centre areas of Kauppatori, Katajanokka and Kanavaranta and many are available for tourists to board.
“The aim of the event is to promote education and cooperation among young people through joint sailing activities, regardless of nationality, cultural background, religion and social background,” organizers wrote in a press release.
The statement also said the event will attract around 500,000 tourists to the Finnish capital.
There will be six host ports in 2024, three of which are in Finland. In addition to Helsinki, Turku (18-21 July) and Mariehamn in the Åland Islands (24-27 July) will also host the event.
The other host cities are Klaipeda in Lithuania, Tallinn in Estonia and Szczecin in Poland.
The Grand Regatta is held every four years in the Baltic region, with Helsinki last serving as host port in 2013.
