JN Money waives fees to support Hurricane Beryl recovery

JN Money Services Limited (JNMS), which operates the JN Money brand, has introduced a 50 per cent discount on remittance fees for money transfers to Jamaica.

The discount was introduced on July 2, prior to Hurricane Beryl, and has been extended until July 6 to support Jamaicans abroad in helping friends and family affected by the hurricane. The discount applies to funds remitted from a JN Money branch or via JN Money Online.

JN Money General Manager Horace Hines stressed that the discount underscores the company’s commitment to working with the diaspora to assist in the country’s reconstruction and development efforts.

Although Category 4 Hurricane Beryl did not make landfall in Jamaica, it caused significant damage, particularly in the southern regions of St. Elizabeth, Clarendon and Manchester, affecting homes, buildings, road infrastructure, power lines and, most importantly, the livelihoods of farmers.

Mr. Hines said JN Money is committed to helping Jamaica and the Jamaican people recover from the disaster. “While we do not have all the data yet, we know that many Jamaicans rely on remittances, so it is imperative that we do everything we can to ease their burden and support their recovery,” he explained.

Given that JN Money has been involved in recovery efforts for Hurricanes Ivan, Dean, Sandy and Tropical Storm Gustav over the past few years, the company was able to respond quickly due to the large number of expatriate inquiries. “Our role in facilitating diaspora reconstruction is well known, and we are committed to maintaining that partnership,” said Hines.

Hines noted that the fee waiver is part of JN Group’s broader Hurricane Recovery Initiative, which is designed to identify and address the immediate needs of members, customers and their communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl and to strengthen their ability to respond to future disasters.
