Eva Darren’s family offers advice to FAMAS organizers

The veteran actress was denied an award presenter post at the 72nd FAMAS awards ceremony in “incomprehensible” ways, after which celebrities and netizens continued to support her

MANILA, Philippines — Actress Eva Darren and her family accepted the apology from the organizers of the Philippine Academy of Film Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) 2024 awards ceremony, but a family member also advised them not to let anyone else go through what her mother experienced at this year’s ceremony, which was “incomprehensible, unexpected, and unimaginable.”

On Tuesday, May 28, Fernando de la Peña took to Facebook to thank all of her mother’s supporters and elaborate on their anger at what happened at the FAMAS awards night, and their decision to accept the apology from FAMAS organizers for Darren’s snub.

He said Darren worked hard to provide for his family, “including being educated in the basic virtues and principles of Filipino culture, which is respect for elders.”

“We have no intention of upsetting anyone, in fact our upbringing has conditioned us to avoid trouble at all costs, often at the expense of our own emotions,” he said.

“I know we are just a small voice in the back row amidst the clamor, but if I may, I would like to offer two pieces of personal advice for the 73rd FAMAS Awards Gala: please follow the script… and maybe get a good pair of glasses for all those in charge.”

The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 26 at the Manila Hotel Indra Pena Call out FAMAS organizers did not invite the actress to the stage, even though she was invited to present the awards. FAMAS continues to face opposition, celebrities support Darren

Although FAMAS organizers have apologized, they continue to face criticism, with some celebrities and netizens pointing out that the incident speaks volumes about the treatment of the country’s respected artists.

Actress Rita Avila, like other netizens, expressed her opinion on the treatment of the veteran.

“MS. Eva Darren definitely didn’t do it to show off, but because he respected the invitation. Is (he) respected? ” she says.

In the comments section, Avila also pointed out some inconsistencies in the organizers’ rationale. She noted that Darren was not listed as a speaker in the poster uploaded by FAMAS on Sunday. The post of the poster has since been deleted from FAMAS’s social media pages.

Avila wondered aloud why the organizers even gave Darren a script to memorize when they didn’t include her in the official presenter poster. She added that the organizers should prepare a dedicated area for the presenters and set up a team to monitor them so that they are easier to track during the event.

Actress Maila Gumila has urged the staff of awarding bodies like FAMAS and the entire entertainment industry to do research on the guests so that they can show proper respect to veteran actors.

One of the best actor nominees, actor Cedric Juan, retweeted de la Peña’s post and mentioned the organizers’ excuse for the incident.

“Hey, he said he couldn’t find him. That’s why every event has an organizer. Sad (Sigh. (They said) they couldn’t find her. So every event has an organizer. So sad. )” he wrote.

Interestingly, FAMAS’ apology statement for the Darren incident has been restrictive in terms of comment.

Only one comment remained, from Facebook user Philippe Paje, who wrote: “Do more than an apology. Invite her to present the Best Picture award next year and cover all her expenses. And give her the best seats. That’s the best way to make amends.” As of this writing, the comment has garnered more than 9,000 responses.
