Oman Down Syndrome Association holds golf tournament

Muscat: The golf tournament “Above Par”, organised by the Oman Down Syndrome Association (ODSA), was held at the Ghala Golf Club on Friday.

The competition started at 6 am and ended at 5 pm. There were more than 110 players participating in the competition. The competition adopted the four-ball competition system.

Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jabri, chairman of the Oman Down Syndrome Association, said the message of the tournament is for all people with Down syndrome to be fully included in all settings.

He said the purpose of the competition is to “make the community aware of Down syndrome and the role the association plays in its work and goals. It is also to gain support to allow ODSA to further achieve its vision of helping all people with Down syndrome in Oman.”

The vision of the Oman Down Syndrome Association is to promote a full and meaningful life for each of its members. The mission of the association is to create a network that promotes interaction between families, society, educators and trainers of people with Down syndrome. Since its inception, the association has been providing primary and comprehensive care while achieving social empowerment of children through education and rehabilitation of people with Down syndrome, psychological and family counseling for families and people with Down syndrome.

The association also provides training to build capacity of staff working with children with Down syndrome and their families. It also runs recreational activities within and outside the association, in addition to advocacy and mentoring activities for children with Down syndrome and participation in local committees to develop strategies and plans for disability rights.
