The Delhi High Court will today hear a plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice Neena Bansal Krishna will preside over the plea filed by the Delhi Chief Minister on Monday, July 1.
Arvind Kejriwal was initially arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in the Delhi GST case. He was subsequently arrested by the CBI in June. The CBI’s arrest of Kejriwal came shortly after a local court granted bail to Kejriwal in a related money laundering case.
Kejriwal also challenged the trial court order of June 26, which had directed his detention for three days in the custody of the CBI. Subsequently, on June 29, the trial court remanded him in custody till July 12.

The charges and the court’s position

The CBI has accused Arvind Kejriwal of being non-cooperative and evasive during his three-day detention, and they are also concerned that he may influence witnesses in the Delhi GST case.
The probe agency alleged that the Delhi Chief Minister and other AAP leaders received kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to frame a liquor policy that benefited a group of politicians and businessmen. Later, the policy was revoked after the Delhi Lieutenant Governor suggested a probe into licensing irregularities.
