“We strongly condemn … the provocative military show of force against the DPRK,” the North’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday carried by state news agency KCNA, using the DPRK’s formal name.
The article stated that “US-Japan-South Korea relations have taken on the appearance of an Asian version of NATO” and warned that this would have “fatal consequences.”
“North Korea will never ignore the moves by the United States and its followers to strengthen their military bloc.”
The latest joint exercises involved the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt from Washington, the guided-missile destroyer JS Atago from Tokyo and KF-16 fighter jets from Seoul.
Pyongyang has long denounced similar joint exercises as rehearsals for an invasion.
