Customs seized a large number of illegally imported cigarettes.
Customs said today that they raided a place in Uppsala last week on a court order to investigate suspected smuggling of cigarettes into Sri Lanka but did not complete the procedure. Four places in Malayalam and Uppsala were raided on Wednesday.
The agency seized 173 cartons of cigarettes with a market value of Rs 1.6 million. The import duty was $5.6 million, the customs said.
