Kerala Women’s Commission (KWC) member Indira Raveendran said that in order to deal with and resolve the problems faced by women faculty members and students, proper functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in all institutions, including professional colleges, should be ensured.
After sitting for a while at the Aslam Guest House, she said the dysfunctional ICC was a major problem. The committee members also pointed out that the problems faced by the elderly were increasing. “This issue should be urgently prioritized and resolved at the revenue division office.level,” she said.
Ms. Raveendran said that as marriage problems are increasing day by day between couples, it should be mandatory for couples to undergo pre-marital counselling. A total of 78 complaints were received during this hearing. Of these, nine complaints have been resolved and 64 complaints have been deferred to the next hearing. KWC Inspector Jose Kurian, lawyers Hema S. Shankar, Seenath Beegum and counsellor Sangeetha were present during this hearing.
