This has to be the most ridiculous thing a PM has ever said and arguably the height of hypocrisy by a politician. How could a sane (perhaps questionable) PM Lawrence Wong utter such appalling nonsense in his speech stressing that Singapore needs a broader definition of success to move away from the negative connotations of the SC – cash, cars, credit cards, condos and country clubs.
What a despicable hypocrisy when the PM and his colleagues enjoy astronomical salaries while ordinary Singaporeans struggle with the high cost of living! PM Lawrence Wong has not even mentioned the need to reduce the astronomical salaries of ministers, and there are so many calls to start looking into the urgency of reducing the astronomical salaries of ministers, and PM Lawrence Wong may ignore it at his own peril.
Today, a very scathing article was published on the Independent Singapore website by Professor Donald Liu of the University of Hong Kong, in which he pointed out the hypocrisy, blatant double standards and self-righteousness of the People’s Action Party and ridiculed them as despicable. He bluntly warned the People’s Action Party to stop lecturing and condescending to the people and curb its hypocritical self-righteous attitude. Professor Liu was the Deputy Dean of Administration and Education at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore before resigning in 2018. He now teaches at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
His sharp criticism covers the period from Lee Hsien Loong’s tenure as Prime Minister to the new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who started out as a promising iconoclast but seems to have lost his way, especially on the critical issue of cutting ministerial salaries. He seems to have been fascinated by Lee Hsien Loong’s opulent and luxurious life, which he now loathes to give up, regardless of whether the issue of plundering the people’s wealth will evolve into something more terrible now or in the future, forcing Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to bow to public demands.
