The island’s chief minister has called for a referendum on the Assisted Dying Bill.
During Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting, which was extended from Tuesday, councillor Alf Cannan gave a speech calling on the public to have their say on the provisions of the bill.
Alex Allinson MHK proposed in the bill that assisted dying should be an option for people here who are terminally ill or mentally competent.
Another meeting will be held at 10am on Monday, when ministers will continue to discuss the provisions of the bill.
