Economic relations between Bulgaria and India have been on an upward trend over the past decade, Indian Ambassador to Bulgaria Sanjay Rana told BTA on Thursday. Rana said the two countries have close ties in heavy and chemical industries. He added that there has been an increase in the exchange of construction materials and various specialized tools between the two countries. Rana arrived in Burgas to learn about opportunities for deepening economic cooperation. His visit also marks the start of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Bulgaria in 2024.
The Indian Ambassador said that both sides are now looking for new opportunities, including trade opportunities in electric vehicle components and specialized equipment in the field of renewable energy. He stressed that the green transformation currently underway in Europe will create more opportunities for cooperation and trade between India and Bulgaria.
Rana said that the Burgas region is one of the most actively developing regions in Bulgaria, where many economic activities are concentrated. Burgas has become the gateway to Bulgaria with its port and is increasingly becoming an important hub for trade between India and Bulgaria. He stressed that with the development of logistics and railways, Bulgaria is becoming an extremely important partner for India.
The Ambassador said Bulgaria and India have a sustainable economic and cultural partnership and new opportunities have emerged in recent years with the growing interest in sustainable technologies, electric vehicles and renewable energy.
Rana also spoke about the idea of hiring third-country workers in Bulgaria and announced that India has expressed to the Bulgarian government its desire to conclude a bilateral agreement in this regard. According to him, this will benefit large employers in Bulgaria as they need a trained workforce, which India has. He added that India already has similar agreements with Italy, Germany, France and Austria.
