Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne celebrates after scoring a goal.

Stuttgart: Belgium drew 0-0 with Ukraine, finishing runners-up in Group E and advancing to the last 16 of Euro 2024. Ukraine’s hopes of qualifying were dashed on Wednesday night as the two teams drew 0-0.

Both teams had a nervous start at the Stuttgart Arena, with all four teams in the group stage starting the night with three points, so the teams were very different in terms of quality.

Belgium captain Kevin De Bruyne created the first clear chance of the game, making a zigzagging run to pass the ball straight to Romelu Lukaku, but Lukaku failed to connect with the ball from close range and Ukraine goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin easily saved the ball.

De Bruyne then came close to scoring, attempting a clever free-kick to find Trubin at the near post, but his shot went just wide.

The Red Devils continued to dominate possession in the second half, but Ukraine held firm and Lukaku tried another curling shot, but it was saved by Trubin.

Ukraine needed a goal and made three substitutions in the 70th minute, trying their best to break through the Belgian defense in order to win. But Belgium was still the most threatening side, with Yannick Carrasco’s shot blocked by the opponent.

With 10 minutes remaining, Artem Dovbyk’s eyes lit up as he received the ball in open space on the edge of the box, but the Ukrainian striker could only fire his shot into the side-netting as time expired.

In the final moments of the game, Georgy Sudakov scored a goal with a single shot, which was a great performance. Although the goal seemed to be within reach, his shot in the penalty area was not strong enough and Ukraine missed the goal again.

In the other match of the group, Slovakia and Romania drew 1-1, and all teams finished with 4 points. Belgium finished second after Romania on the number of goals scored, while Ukraine finished fourth due to the lowest goal difference.
