Defending champions Chipolopolo will travel to South Africa to compete in this year’s COSAFA Cup, which will be held in Nelson Mandela Bay from June 26 to July 7, with six players set to make their debuts.

Zambia has been drawn in Group B of the 2024 COSAFA Cup and will face Kenya, Zimbabwe and Comoros.

As predicted, Zesco United’s 19-year-old prospect David Simukonda made the cut.

Power Dynamos second-string goalkeeper Willard Mwanza, who was in excellent form in the absence of Lawrence Mulenga in the second half of the season, will also be making his COSAFA Cup debut.

Mwanza’s teammate, midfielder Owen Tambo, who has been consistent in the past two seasons since his move from Konkola Blades, is one of the players looking to make an impact.

Other players include Mufulira Wanderers defender Owen Mwamba and Nkana duo Chitosh Chinga and Matheus Banda.

Meanwhile, striker Austin Muwowo is sure to attract some attention, especially from the South African media, as he officially returns to Orlando Pirates after leaving a four-year club a few seasons ago.

Kansas City Dynamo striker Jimmy Mukeya returns for the second COSAFA Cup since 2022, along with midfielder Dickson Chapa.

Another returning player is defender Zacharia Chilongoshi, who returns to the COSAFA Cup for the first time since 2021.

Ironically, Chilongoshi was a member of the Chiporoporo team that last visited Nelson Mandela Bay, where the reigning COSAFA Cup champions were unceremoniously knocked out in the group stage.
