National Council elections: Kogler selected as top candidate

Being leader of the Green Party and working in the government is a “privilege and a grace” for him. Kogler has already announced that he wants to serve in the next legislative period – both in opposition and in government. He is a “passionate MP”. Voting for twelve spots on the federal list

The delegates voted for a total of twelve places on the federal list and confirmed the state lists for the national council elections. Environment Minister Gewessler, who was second on the list, voted in favor of the EU reunification agreement despite the opposition of the ÖVP and received strong support from the approximately 200 deputies in the Bundestag, and received long applause and a standing ovation in the parliament. In the 2017 national parliamentary elections, the Greens failed to cross the 4% barrier and were expelled from the national parliament. This year, after four years as the junior partner of the ÖVP coalition, the party performed well below the 2019 figures in the surveys.
