Europe is the main source market for Mauritian tourists, and its range is expanding with the arrival of tourists from Spain and Portugal. The Spanish airline Iberojet offers one flight to Mauritius per week, every Tuesday.
Yesterday afternoon, no fewer than 380 Spanish tourists arrived at SSR Airport on the inaugural Madrid-Mauritius flight on an Airbus A350. Iberojet representative Umarfarooq Omarjee explained that the airline offers flights from Barcelona and Portugal. He said that in the future the number of flights should be increased to two per week, hoping that the bilateral relations between Mauritius and Spain will develop as a result.
In itself, «Contract Processing Manager» Laura Pico of Iberojet confirmed that we are making commendable efforts to promote the destination of Mauritius in Spain. She added that the inaugural flight was initially expected to carry about 430 passengers, but in the end only 380 passengers completed the journey. The Iberojet flight arrived in Piacenza at 1:25 pm on Tuesday, June 18, and took off at 5:25 pm the same day.
