Government is actively seeking to increase private sector participation in the local hospitality industry in Saint Lucia.
Government officials from the ministries of commerce, manufacturing, business development, cooperatives and consumer affairs are working with private sector associations on business consultations.
These consultations aim to leverage tourism as a catalyst for growth and economic development, delivering significant benefits to businesses. Tourism remains a major economic pillar in Saint Lucia, providing new market opportunities for sectors such as manufacturing, services, distributive trade and the creative industries. By promoting synergies, businesses can achieve growth objectives while contributing to the island’s economic prosperity.
This active private sector engagement is in line with the Government’s strategy. On 14 May, Prime Minister Philippe J. Pierre, following a meeting with private sector representatives, stressed the need to increase revenue from tourism. In addition, the consultations supported the “Love Saint Lucia” campaign to strengthen the resilience of the local economy by encouraging the consumption of locally produced goods and services.
The consultation has three main objectives:
- Meeting the challenges and opportunities of industry expansion.
- Standardize the cooperation mechanism among partners.
- Identify government support to ensure sustainable multi-sector collaboration.”
