SINGAPORE: The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on Friday (May 24) issued a recall for two Xiyu Orchard Xinjiang Paper Roasted Walnut products after they were found to contain cyclamate and excessive amounts of acesulfame potassium.

The State Forestry Administration said in a press release that cyclamate and acesulfame potassium are food additives allowed to be used as artificial sweeteners and can be used in certain foods such as soft drinks and canned fruits.

However, cyclamate is not currently permitted in walnuts or other nut and seed products.

Acesulfame potassium can be used in nut and seed products, but the maximum usage is subject to the provisions of Singapore Food Regulations

The affected products are produced in China and are available in 500-gram packages and 1-kilogram boxes.

The State Forestry Administration has instructed Hongxinda, the importer of the product, to recall the product in question. The recall is in progress.
