: World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was beaten 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 by Tomasz Maczak in the semifinals of the Geneva Open on Friday, giving the Czech player his first ATP Tour final.
Macchak trailed 1-4 but eventually won the first set after Djokovic requested a medical timeout at the end of the match.
The Serb fought back in the second set but fell again in the tiebreaker, allowing Machak to earn his second Big Ten win.
“I’m not reacting right now, I’m just trying my best,” Machak said. “When you play against Novak, you just have to hope. You just have to play your best and see how it goes.”
“I’m looking forward to playing in my first final.”
Djokovic, who turned 37 on Wednesday, has yet to reach a final this season.
The 24-time major champion requested a wild card for Geneva after being beaten by little-known professional Alejandro Tabillo in the round of 32 in Rome.
Two days ago, Djokovic had an accident while signing autographs and was hit on the head by a fan’s water bottle.
He will begin the defense of his French Open title on Sunday against Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round.
Machak faced a top-10 player on clay for the first time, becoming the first Czech player to reach the Geneva final since Thomas Smid in 1987.
He will face two-time champion Casper Ruud or Italian Flavio Cobolli for the title on Saturday.
