Union members at Ontario’s major liquor retailer have voted overwhelmingly to approve a strike order, as workers at the retailer move one step closer to a possible walkout.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union said Saturday that 97 per cent of LCBO workers voted in favour of a strike.
It was reported that a total of 8,060 LCBO employees participated in the voting during the four-day voting period, with a turnout rate of 86%.
The union said the vote sends a strong signal to employers and Ontario Premier Doug Ford that its members will not back down.
OPSEU said its negotiating team will be back at the table this week to highlight its key demands, noting members will learn more details about a potential strike timeline on Monday evening.
The union’s collective agreement with the LCBO is set to expire on March 31, after the union served a bargaining notice in January.
