Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy Officials have been directed to prepare a development plan for Mandya district as per the Central government’s scheme.
On June 15, Mr. Kumaraswamy visited Mandya for the first time after assuming the office of Union cabinet minister and held a road show, which was warmly welcomed by supporters. Later, he inaugurated the MP’s office and went to the deputy commissioner’s office to hold talks with officials.

He told the officials that the central government has several schemes and the officials should use these schemes to formulate development plans for the region.
Mr. Kumaraswamy called on officials to use the funds allocated by the government in the best and transparent manner and expressed regret over the underutilization of funds found in the Mandya district administration during his tenure as chief minister.
The Union Minister also pointed out that farmers constitute a large part of the population of Mandya district. “The district is rich in natural resources and there is a lot of room for development in Mandya,” he said.
He also asked officials to come up with new projects such as opening model schools, colleges, hospitals and sports stadiums through central government schemes or corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.
Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumara, who was also present in the meeting, told the councillors that the district administration has prepared a project to prevent accidents on the Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway and submitted it to the central government. Besides, the Mandya District Cooperative Milk Producers Association Union Ltd (ManMul) has submitted three projects to the central government under the National Dairy Development Scheme.
He also briefed the minister on the status of agricultural and horticultural crop cultivation in the district, water level in KRS reservoir, procedure for convening Irrigation Advisory Committee meetings and industrial situation in Mandya district.
When Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO Sheikh Tanveer Asif explained the progress of work on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Clean India Campaign, Multi-Village Drinking Water Scheme and Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, Mr. Kumaraswamy pointed out that the Central government will set a higher target for the housing scheme this year and asked officials to start preparing for it in the district.
KR Pet MP HT Manju, Chamundeshwari constituency MP and JD(S) core committee chairman GT Deve Gowda, Mandya district police commissioner N. Yatish and other senior officials of the district were also present on the ceremony.
