The World Tourism Organization’s President Zurab Pololikashvili is currently on a practical visit to Uzbekistan. He and Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the further expansion of multilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations specialized agencies.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the implementation of the agreements and initiatives proposed at the 25th session of the organization, which will be held in Samarkand in October 2023. The UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution based on Uzbekistan’s initiative, declaring 2027 the International Year of Sustainable and Viable Tourism, was highly appreciated.

It was noted with pleasure that the organization has become a strategic partner of Uzbekistan in the development of modern tourist infrastructure and popularization of tourism in Uzbekistan. The meeting stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts to create favorable conditions and facilities for tourists, implement programs and projects aimed at developing pilgrimage and cultural-educational tourism, including domestic tourism.

In addition, the two sides paid special attention to the training of qualified personnel in the hotel and service sectors and effectively utilized the opportunities of the Samarkand International Tourism Academy. It is worth noting that in order to popularize tourism in Uzbekistan, it is planned to expand practical cooperation and support Uzbek travel agencies to participate in major international tourism fairs.

The President then visited the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari on the eve of Eid al-Adha, during which the Quran was recited and prayers were offered.

During the conversation between the President and the scholars, they discussed issues such as creating conditions for the development of science and education, educating young people about patriotism and gratitude, and respecting national values.

The President then ended his visit to Samarkand and headed to Tashkent.
