St. Lucia saw five homicides over the weekend, including two double murders, as law enforcement officials continue to combat widespread crime, especially gun violence, on the island.
In one incident, two Grass Street residents were shot and killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday night. The victims, identified as Walter Hoffer, aka “White Boy,” and Sharmar Martin, were found slumped over in a white Toyota Yaris near the Starfish Inn in Rodney Bay.
After the shooting, photos of two men slumped in a white Toyota Yaris were posted on social media.
Another double murder has occurred in Marchand, Castries East constituency. Two young men were shot dead last Saturday. Police found two male victims along Marchand Road with apparent gunshot wounds. They were rushed to Owen King EU (OKEU) Hospital where they were pronounced dead. The victims were identified as Thaddeus Denis alias “Coco Boy” and Evitus Lynch Junior alias “Red Boy” from Hemallet, Castries.
During the investigation, the Major Crimes Unit and supporting officers from the Marchand Police Department arrested a male suspect. He was found in possession of a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun with 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the magazine. Alton Jn Jacques, 33, of Marchand Avenue, was charged with offenses related to possession of firearms and ammunition.
At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Friday, June 7, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Vieux Fort Police Department began investigating the shooting death of a man in Augier, Vieux Fort.
It is reported that two male suspects illegally broke into a police officer’s residence. One of the suspects was shot and killed, and the other suspect fled on foot.
The deceased was identified as Delson Marcusie of Vieux Fort Barracks. He was later pronounced dead by a doctor at St. Jude Hospital. A .40 caliber Glock pistol was also found on the deceased with a magazine containing 14 rounds of .40 caliber bullets.
Meanwhile, officers from the Anse La Raye police station received reports of a suspected vehicle collision-related death at Venus Millet in the Anse La Raye district at around 4am last Saturday.
Investigators found a male victim lying on the ground, unresponsive, with visible injuries. Medical personnel at the scene examined the victim and pronounced him dead.
The deceased has been identified as Brad Pelage, aka “Pot Head”, 34, of Vanard, Anse La Raye. This case is being ruled a hit-and-run vehicle collision.
