Criminal arrested for shooting and robbing Rhodes College security guard

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (MPD) — On June 12, 2024 at 1:50 a.m., police responded to a robbery in which a vehicle was stolen at 652 University Street in the Rhodes College area. Police learned that the victim saw her 2023 Dodge Challenger with its lights on. When she went outside, she found a man in her car. The suspect shot the victim once and followed her into the building. He then pointed a gun at the victim and demanded that she hand over her keys. The victim was not injured, but the suspect fled in her car and took her laptop, cell phone, and wallet.

At 11:57 a.m., officers with the MPD Auto Theft Task Force located a 2023 Dodge Challenger in the 2000 block of South Cabana Loop. Officers observed two males approaching the vehicle and entering the vehicle. Utilizing aerial tracking, the Dodge Challenger was tracked. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled, nearly causing a crash at Eldridge Street and Broad Avenue. The vehicle stopped on Brown Avenue near Howell, and the two suspects fled the vehicle on foot. Officers pursued the two suspects on foot and took them into custody. A Glock handgun with a Glock switch was recovered.

Cardello Harris, 18, was charged with aggravated robbery, attempted first-degree murder, intentionally evading arrest by vehicle, theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000, evading arrest on foot, no driver’s license, reckless driving and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Bobby Martin, 18, was charged with theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000 and evading arrest.
