The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) sent four members to China for a two-week training.

Obaj Shagawa of Eye Radio, Emmanuel Deng of JUBA ECHO TV, James Opiny and Rachel Hakim of SSBC Radio in Torit will return to South Sudan on September 13.

UJOSS president Patrick Oyet told Radio Tamazuj that the coordination was done in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Juba.

“Hopefully, journalists will learn how to use new technologies to advance journalism,” Oyette said.

He urged the Chinese Embassy in South Sudan to increase the number of people next time.

“We asked the Chinese Embassy to provide more opportunities. We think it’s a good thing because it helps people experience different environments,” he said.

Oyet called on South Sudanese journalists to always be prepared to seize such opportunities as some of them are often found with expired travel documents.
