Charles Leclerc won Ferrari’s home race at Monza and celebrated his second victory of the season. 2nd and 3rd place went to McLaren.
As fans celebrated Charles Leclerc’s victory at the Monza circuit, they were in awe. Ferrari’s one-stop strategy surprised McLaren. Oscar Piastri finished second, ahead of his teammate Lando Norris. Carlos Sainz ended Ferrari’s good run in fourth. Red Bull had nothing to say about Verstappen. He finished sixth between the two Mercedes drivers, Hamilton and Russell.
Lando Norris started the race as pole position setter, but had to give up this position to teammate Piastri in the second chicane, and was subsequently overtaken by Charles Leclerc. Britt therefore found himself in third place after the first kilometer. George Russell had a better result at the start, when he backed out in the first chicane and damaged his front wing. He ended up seventh.
Like all the other teams, McLaren went with a two-stop strategy, while Ferrari decided to enter the pits only once. It was the decisive trick to celebrate its first home win since 2019, when Monegas was first across the finish line. In the end, Ferrari’s tyres might not have been the best, but they were enough to prevent the McLaren driver from entering.
In the overall standings, Lando Norris (241 points) has reduced the gap to Max Verstappen (303 points) to 62 points, but Charles Leclerc has come from behind. Monegas now has 217 points. In the constructors’ standings, there are only 8 points between Red Bull (446 points) and McLaren (438 points), with Ferrari also leading with 407 points.
