Roseau, Dominica (TDN)
– More than seven weeks after Hurricane Maria hit Dominica, police have released the names of those confirmed dead and missing and presumed dead. According to police reports, a total of 31 people have been confirmed dead across the island, while another 34 are missing and presumed dead. Most of the dead and missing are from the villages of Pointe Michel and Loubiere, which account for 25 of the 65 dead and missing. The confirmed dead in Pointe Michel are Royston Toussaint, Murray Delmore, Veronica Peltier and Glen Alexander. The missing and presumed dead are Randolph Randy Charles, Philipson Renault, Ann Lanquedoc, Morian Lanquedoc, Nadora Williams, Garvin Francis, Jerome Daniel, Jayalia Lawrence, Gertain Daniel, Edith Fontaine, Nashon Attidore, Darry Grove of Vielle case and Joanne Francis.On Loubiere, the deceased is confirmed to be 10-year-old Yakira Joseph, missing and presumed dead are Destiny Joseph, Ivon Prevost, Myrtle Celaire, Clive Leblanc, Jerry Lafleur, Annie Simon and Ronnie Jolly of Petit Savanne. Elsewhere in Dos Dane, Alfred Magloire, Jennifer Moulon and Anthony Bannis aka Rasta are confirmed dead, while Rita Magloire and Vitus of Paix Bouche are missing and presumed dead. In Fond Baron, Gloria Elie Prosper is confirmed dead, and one-year-old Jaydon Jno Baptiste is confirmed missing and presumed dead. In the community of Mahaut, Alicious Joseph and Lee aka Dig are dead, while in Casttle Bruce, Laronde Roberts of Mahaut and Alexis Laville of Penville died in the storm. Also confirmed dead are Peter Registe of Tarish pit, Emmanuel Joseph of Fond Cole, Daminal Ishmael of Stockfarm, John Thomas and Ivon Jules of Morne Bruce, Irella Henry of Marigot, Janet Canoville of Belles, Grand Fond, Theresa Frederick of Dublanc, Lucy Thomas of Scottshead and Whitfield Lawrence of Woodfordhill. In Roseau, Minelle Monetto, Jeffrey Menero, Edmond Charles, Sharon Francis and Jno Lewis Fontaine are confirmed missing and presumed dead. In Canefield, Peter Lewis, Vanya Woodman of Bath Estates, Marcus Boyd of Castle Comfort, six-year-old Jopha Christopher of Pottersville and Christine Thomas of Savanne Paille are also missing and presumed dead. Five bodies found after the storm have not yet been identified. Those missing and presumed dead were mainly swept away by raging floodwaters, and their bodies have not been found to date.

Hurricane Maria is the most destructive storm to hit the Dominican Republic in modern history, surpassing Hurricane David on August 29, 1979, which killed 56 people.
