MONZA, Italy: Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap in the final free practice session for the Italian Grand Prix on Saturday, while his team-mate George Russell took one-two on the timesheets for Mercedes.

The seven-time world champion set the fastest time in the second practice session on Friday and is looking to win for a record sixth time at Monza on Sunday, clocking 1:20.117, with Russell 0.093 seconds slower.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished third and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri finished fourth.

Championship leader Max Verstappen of Red Bull complained about a lack of front grip and was only sixth fastest, while his closest rival Lando Norris of McLaren was fifth.

Norris, who won last weekend in the Netherlands, is 70 points behind Verstappen with nine races left.

Carlos Sainz, who won pole position at Monza last year, finished seventh this year, with Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto of Williams eighth and ninth respectively, and Nico Hulkenberg of Haas rounding out the top ten.
