Last year, the Isle of Man taxpayers paid nearly £700,000 for the deputy governor.
The £698,534 figure includes the wages of eight staff, according to data revealed through a Freedom of Information request.
Freedom of Information also revealed that the cost of the Government House’s gardening contract was around £100,000 last year, while building maintenance costs were close to £60,000 over the same period.
Ian Kermode, a local attorney who filed the request, described the expenditure as “extravagant” and asked whether it was necessary during these tough economic times.
