Two women arrested for obstructing official business near embassy: police

Two women who chanted anti-Israel slogans near some Sri Lankan embassies were arrested for harassing the ambassador and obstructing police officers.

Aishat Shadia, 47, from Badikurima, KS, was arrested while protesting near the embassy. Dr Shazura Ibrahim, 36, from Lily, Ratchaphruek. They were arrested at 01:00 p.m.

Police said they were ordered to leave the area peacefully for repeatedly gathering near diplomatic missions, using loudspeakers, using foul language, obstructing the work of diplomatic missions and harassing an ambassador.




However, they refused to do so and were arrested on charges of obstructing police officers in the execution of their duties, based on a court order.

Aishat Shadia and Shazra Ibrahim were advised several times not to act in this manner.

Police urge all parties to respect the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act and follow police instructions to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed right to assembly.
