Japan to provide Rs 420 million to Nepal – Online Khabar

Kathmandu, August 12. The Japanese government will provide Nepal with grant aid worth approximately 423 million Nepalese rupees (454 million yen).

The grant will be provided under the Human Resources Development Scholarship (JDS) program.

The agreement was signed by Finance Ministry Secretary Dr Ram Prasad Ghimire and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Yutaka Kikuta.

Under this scholarship program, competitive young officials of the Nepali government will have the opportunity to study at various universities in Japan at 2-year Masters and 3-year PhD levels.

Japan has been providing funding under this scholarship program since 2016. 165 of these students have received higher education.

Under the new agreement, an additional 22 students will receive study scholarships.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance. Ghimire expressed his confidence that the scholarship program will enhance the capacity of Nepal’s civil service.

Ambassador Yutaka said the JDS graduates will have a significant impact on Nepal’s development.

He said the long-standing cooperative relationship between the two countries will be further strengthened.
