Nuclear accident risk
Ukraine reportedly announced it had taken control of 100 settlements in Kursk and captured 594 Russian soldiers. Kiev attacked the western Kursk region on August 6 and seized large swathes of territory in the largest foreign offensive against Russia since World War II.
Russia says nuclear power plant attacked several times by Ukrainian troops
After inspecting Russia’s Kursk Nuclear Power Plant yesterday, Rafael Grossi, head of the United Nations Nuclear Energy Agency, said there was a risk of a nuclear accident and the situation was serious.
“There is already a danger or possibility of a nuclear accident nearby,” Grossi told reporters, referring to the fact that fighting was taking place near Kursk.
Russia says the station was repeatedly attacked by Ukrainian troops just 40 kilometers away after they seized large swathes of Russian territory this month. Ukraine has yet to respond to the allegations.
