Jay Shah, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been unanimously elected as the new president of the International Cricket Council.
According to an announcement released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah will take over the position from December 1, 2024, and the term of current ICC Chairman Greg Buckley will end in November this year.
The announcement stated that Jay Shah was elected as ICC President before the expiration of Greg Buckley’s term.
On his election as the Chairman, Jay Shah said that he was delighted to work with the ICC to promote cricket across the globe and that it was important to give equal importance to all three formats, the use of technology in cricket and global events in the market to be taken to a higher level.
Making cricket a more popular sport was a priority, he added, adding that cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics reflected the growth of the sport.
