Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada and Washington state have also joined the U.S. Department of Justice in an antitrust lawsuit against Apple for allegedly monopolizing the smartphone market.
The department’s statement reminded that in March, attorneys general from 16 states and the New Jersey District Court filed a lawsuit against Apple for “anti-competitive behavior.”
Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada and Washington state also joined the antitrust case and submitted corrected versions of their petitions to the court, the statement said.
In the Commerce Department’s lawsuit filed in March, it was alleged that Apple used its market power to extract more money from consumers, developers, content creators, artists, publishers, small businesses and merchants.
The lawsuit accuses Apple of establishing an illegal monopoly on smartphones by imposing contractual restrictions on developers and denying them key access rights, while arguing that every step of Apple’s behavior strengthens the moat of its smartphone monopoly.
