The legendary Athenian secular photographer Lakis Giakoumis passed away today, leaving a huge void in the country’s photographic and secular life. On August 17, just two days before his birthday, Lakis Giakumis was rushed to the intensive care unit of Triassios General Hospital due to a microorganism in his body that caused concern for all those close to him. Due to some complications, he did not make it and died today.

Giakoumis has contributed to the field of photography for more than 40 years, immortalizing with his lens some of the most important personalities in Greece and internationally. Among them are politicians, businessmen, artists and members of royal families. He has a special ability to capture the glamour and worldliness of the people he photographs in a unique way, which made him the leading photographer for the powerful international wealthy in Athens.

Lakis Giakoumis does not limit himself to photographing people, but pays special attention to historical events, such as the 200th anniversary of the Revolution of 1821. Despite the difficulties and obstacles he faces, he continues to create his works with passion and enthusiasm. His dedication is a testimony to his love for the art of photography and the history of his country.
