- Prime Minister’s Council asks Ministry of Justice to review bill aimed at digitizing service sector
- As a legal entity, the authority will have financial and administrative autonomy.
Islamabad: The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle the Pakistan Digital Nation Bill, 2024 to establish the National Digital Commission and Pakistan Digital Authority and ensure digitization of the national economy and paperless governance.
The cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, asked the Ministry of Justice to conduct necessary review of the bill, which also aims to digitize the service sector as per international standards.
Under the bill, the National Digital Council will serve as a policy-making body headed by the prime minister and comprised of federal and provincial members.
Besides, Pakistan Digital Authority will be established to achieve the goal of Digital Pakistan.
As a legal entity, the agency will have financial and administrative autonomy.
The Union Cabinet also approved the appointment of members of the National Academy of Public Policy from both the public and private education sectors.
Based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Human Rights, a Cabinet Committee was formed to initiate the process of appointing a member of the National Human Rights Commission from Islamabad.
The meeting mainly approved the Arbitration Bill 2024 and related consultations with provinces under Article 144 of the Constitution, as well as signed a memorandum of understanding between the National Accountability Bureau and the Sri Lanka Bribery and Corruption Allegations Investigation Commission to promote cooperation between the two sides in combating bribery and illicit financial flows.
The Union Cabinet approved the decisions of the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises dated May 13 and 20, 2024, the decisions of the Economic Coordination Council dated May 23 and 27, 2024, and the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases dated June 5.
