Manchester United striker Alejandro Ganacho has the potential to become a world-class player if he keeps working hard, head coach Erik ten Hag said ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 20-year-old Ghanacho assisted striker Joshua Zirkzee for the opening goal in the league opener against Fulham, which they won 1-0, and also scored in the Community Shield against Manchester City, which United lost on penalties.
The Argentina international scored alongside Kobe Maino in United’s 2-1 FA Cup win over Manchester City and provided many highlights in an otherwise lacklustre season for United, which saw them finish eighth.
“He has a long way to go to become a world-class player. It starts with hard work,” Ten Hag told reporters. “That’s what got him to where he is now and that’s what will make him a world-class player because I agree he has the potential.”
“We need (exciting players) but I think every top team needs a player with an X-factor. Ganacho definitely has the potential to be that player. If you want to be that kind of player – a world-class player – then you have to keep working hard. He has high potential, 100 per cent.”
Manchester United’s 19-year-old midfielder Maino was a key player in former England manager Gareth Southgate’s squad for England’s Euro 2024 campaign, and ten Hag said the experience had honed Maino’s skills.
“These experiences will only help him become a better player (this season). A perfect midfielder is one who is very good both offensively and defensively. He is a player who can do that, he can play as an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder.”
