Police said the girl told her parents about the incident after returning home, and her parents then reported the case to the local police station.
A Civil Defence Guard was arrested on Wednesday for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Pratap Nagar area here, police said.
They said a case has been registered against him under the POCSO Act.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Labhuram Choudhary said the incident took place near the child’s home in Pratap Nagar area on Tuesday evening.
“The girl was playing outside the house on Tuesday night when the accused, who was riding around on a motorcycle, noticed her. He stopped his motorcycle, sat on the platform outside the house, called the girl over and put her on his lap. He then started molesting her. The panicked girl started screaming,” Choudhary said.
He added that when the girl started screaming, the accused fled the scene.
Police said the girl narrated the incident to her parents after returning home, who then lodged a complaint with the local police station.
Police swung into action and inspected the spot and checked CCTV footage to identify the suspect, who was later found to be Kishan Lal Kinjal (44), a home security guard from the same area.
“We registered a case against him under the Protection of Organised Crime Act and other relevant sections. We nabbed him from his house this morning and arrested him after preliminary investigation,” Chaudhry said.
