Singapore: Starting from Friday (August 23), Changi Airport and Seletar Airport will conduct temperature and vision checks on some incoming passengers and crew members to prevent Gluten.
The health ministry said late Thursday that such screening will be carried out on passengers arriving by plane from places where there may be a risk of MPox outbreaks.
As of now, there are no direct flights between Singapore and any affected countries.
Similar screening measures will also be implemented at maritime checkpoints for crew and passengers of vessels arriving from MPOX-affected areas.
The Ministry of Health said the precautionary measures will enhance Singapore’s “surveillance capabilities” against MPox at its borders.
Health warnings have been issued at air checkpoints so that travelers can take necessary personal precautions to avoid infection.
“Travellers are strongly advised to adhere to the advice, especially those travelling to and from affected countries.
“Travellers who present with fever, rash and/or symptoms consistent with mpox will be referred for medical evaluation,” the Department of Health said.
As of Thursday, Singapore has seen 13 confirmed cases of mpox this year, all of which were the milder type 2 infection.
To date, no Clade 1 cases have been detected in Singapore.
Although the MPOx virus has been known for decades, a new, more deadly and contagious strain — dubbed Clade 1b — has been responsible for the recent surge in cases.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), influenza type 1b causes death in about 3.6% of cases, with children being more at risk.
